ELECTRIC LIGHTING OF THE THAMES BOROUGH.
The Thames Borough Council having taken into consideration the advisability of lighting the borough by electricity, as already stated, Mr. A. Brodie, Mayor of Thames, yesterday waited on Mr. J. C. Firth to obtain information on the subject. Ho was referred by Mr. Firth to his son, Mr. W. T. Firth, who is an electrician. Mr. Brodie supplied this gentleman with a list of the number of houses in tho borough, its population and area, and the quantity of waterpower availablo, both with reference to the tide at Kopu, where there is a rise and fall of 11 feet, and also by the direct water supply, and with a rough sketch of the borough. Mr. W. T. Firth agreed to send an estimate of the cost of lighting tho town, public buildings, and hotels with the arc light, and private houses with incandescent lights, in time for tho next meeting of the Borough Council, to held shortly.
