POLICE COURT.— [Before Br. Giles, R.M.] Stealing Oysters. —John Thomas • ox and Samuel Blair were charged with stealing two sacks of oysters, value 10s, the property of Richard Willis. Prisoners pleaded not guilty. The complainant, Richard Willis, deposed to leaving the bags of oysters on the Railway Wharf, and afterwards found that they had been removed. John York gave evidence that on the 27th April he was at the North Shore tee at the Queen-street Wharf, when at the request of prisoners he put two sacks of oysters on a cart and conveyed them to a store at Parnell. George Spence, proprietor of the store referred to, deposed to the oysters having been brought to tho shop, and received by Mrs. Spence. Witness did not contract with the prisoners to bring the oysters. Constable Maeky deposed to arresting the accused. His Worship said that were this the first offence of the prisoners he would probably have dealt with them under tht First Offenders Probation Act. Tht prisoners were sentenced to 14 days' im prison men with hard labour. Breach ok tub By-laws.—William Chatwind pleading guilty to a charge of carrying pigs will at prohibited hours in Symondsstreet, was fined 5s and costs.
