NORTH AUCKLAND HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
There was a meeting of the North Auckland and Charitable Aid Board held on the 25th April at Whangarei, in the Council Chambers. Present: Messrs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), P. S. Browne, W. Carter, representatives of Whangarei county ; Messrs. Ward and Dickeson for the Bay of Islands county ; Mr."Andrews forHokianga county; Mr. Snelling, for Otamatea; and Mr. Beart for Hobson county ; the Mangonui and Whangaroa counties not being represented. Mr. Robert Mair, secretary and treasurer. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, the correspondence and accounts were dealt with. The amount due, for which payment was authorised, was about £110. A number of resolutions were afterwards passed, chiefly relating to the working of the Board. A few, however, may be of interest to your readers. For instance, No. 8 resolution was as follows : — That the Whangarei County Council representatives of this Board be authorised to act as a standing and finance committee to receive and ileal with reports and general current business, including the claim made by the Auckland Hospital, until further notice, and that any two members of the said committee may countersign cheques for payments authorised, when such cheques are signed by the treasurer. Resolution No. 12 was, " That the contributions of the counties comprising the North Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aidßoard, be at the rate of one-twelfth of a penny in the pound upon the present property tax assessment, and the same be payable on demand within the current year." Resolution No. 13 will also be of general interest: Resolved, " That a petition be prepared by the standing committee 011 behalf of this Board and presented to Parliament, asking for such an amendment in the Acts of lSSf> and ISB6 to bo made as will restore to the several counties embraced in the North Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board the interest in the endowments of the Auckland Hospital which they possessed up to the passing of such Acts, and to the funds of which they had previously contributed, or provide these counties with other endowments of equivalent value ; and further, to pray Parliament to constitute each County Council a Board to adminster the hospital and charitable aid of each such county ; further, that a copy of the said petition bo forwarded to the members of the North of Auckland and the Premier, with a request that the}' will support the same in their places in Parliament, and that the chairman sign the said petition on behalf of the whole of this Board." Resolution No. 14 was, "That it be suggeseed to all Resident Magistrates not to commit children to the Industrial Home, without reference to this Board, so that proper enquiries may be made." The next meeting of the Board was arranged to be held in Whangarei on some convenient day in October next, to be fixed upon at a future date. Trie business was brought to a conclusion at half-past eleven o'clock by a vote of thanks to the chairman.—[A Correspondent.]
