WITHDRAWAL FROM THE CON-
VENTION.

London, May 4. In the House of Commons to-day Sir* James Fergusson, Political Secretary to the Foreign Office, replying to a question by Mr. McArthur, M.P., said that the German Government had announced their intention of withdrawing from the Samoan Convention, and to this England had consented. The reply made no mention as to whether England recognised Tamasese as King of tho island.
