Lord Knutsford, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has given his consent to the amendment suggested by the Queensland Government in the constitution of New Guinea, and a proclamation giving effect to the amendment will shortly be gazetted. The New South Wales loan is quoted at a premium of 255. The Standard considers the placing of the New South Wales loan imprudent, and states that even if the colony is prosperous, it will increase her burden of debt, and drain her resources.
