DISCOVERY OF LEAD CRYSTALS. Sydney, April 18. A valuable discovery of lead crystals is reported from the Mudgee district. The crystals are found on the surface, and some of the specimens give 30oz or silver to the ton. NEW SILVER DISCOVERY. ' Sydney, April 18. A silver lode has been discovered at Rivertree, near Tenterfield, which is yielding from 40oz to 130oz to the ton. WARSHIPS UNDER THE HAMMER. Sydney, April 18. At the auction of the discarded warships to-day the Undine was passed in. The Harrier was sold for £1200. VICTORIAN DEFENCES. Melbourne, April 18. The amount sanctioned by the Government for war material is for the last two years supplies, and not for fresh orders. THE RABBIT PEST. Sydney, April 18. ; The Government have practically agreed to the request of the Rabbit Conference, to set aside an island off the coast and a tract of country inland, for the purpose of testing the various methods for • extermination. M. Pasteur's agent has been licensed to introduce microbes into the colony, and steps will be at once taken to fence a thousand acres inland for the purpose of experimenting with the microbes. Two station-holders have offered to place their runs at the disposal of M. Lois for this purpose. THE CHINESE ON THE CROYDON GOLDFIELD. Brisbane, April 18. • The miners on the Croydon goldfield have decided to eject the Chinese from the field unless the Government take steps to disperse them within fourteen days. WRECK OF A BARQUE. Brisbane, April 18. The barque Ensign, from Townsville to New Zealand, in ballast, has been totally wrecked near Cairns. All hands were saved. [The Ensign, formerly the Baneret, was a wooden barque of 315 gross tonnage, and was built at Shoreham in 1870. She was owned by Messrs. J. Patterson and E. Newbigin, of Melbourne. She had made frequent visits to this port, and was surveyed here last May.] NEW GUINEA SURVEY. Brisbane, April 18. A survey party _ has left Thursday Island for New Guinea, for the purpose of properly defining the coast line, amending the existing charts, and adjusting the quarrels between the native tribes. THE ANGLICAN SYNOD. Sydney, April 18. The Anglican Synod negatived, by a small majority, the proposal to fill the vacant colonial bishopric from the ranks of the clergy in the colonies. It also rejected the motion for the suppression of bazaars. DAMAGES FOR PERSONAL INJURIES. Melbourne, April 18. Mr. Gibson has recovered £2300 damages for injuries at a railway accident. RAILWAY LABOURERS' ASSOCIATION. Melbourne, April 18. At the Conference of the Railway Labourers' Association to-day the balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £11,000. WARNING TO MINE MANAGERS. Sydney, April 18. Veitch, a mine manager at Dubbo, has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for manslaughter, for the death of a miner who was killed through defects in a mine of which Veitch was manager.
