THE RABBIT CONFERENCE.
Sydney, April 16. The Rabbit Conference met to-day, and transacted some formal and preliminary business. The New Zealand representative has not yet arrived. Latek. At the Rabbit Conference to-day several delegates objected to any newdisease being introduced into the colony, and suggested experiments on some island oft the coast. It was, however, pointed out that this would not be sufficient, as animal life existed under different conditions in the interior. Dr. Hind, one of M. Pasteur's representatives, will be examined to-morrow. ANOTHER MAROTOTO COMPANY. Sydney, April 16. The prospectus of the Broken Hills Marototo Silver and Gold Mining Company has been issued, with a capital of £85,000. The object of the purchase is to develop the block near Hikutaia. VOLCANIC UPHEAVAL. Sydney, April 16. A volcano has broken out on Ambrym Island, one of the New Hebrides Group. The whole face of the country is destroyed with volcanic dust. No casualties have been reported. THE NAVIGATION OF THE YARRA. Melbourne, April 16. A new channel, which it is claimed will facilitate the work of bringing vessels up the Yarra, was opened today. SENTENCED TO DEATH. Sydney, April 16. Gustavus Davis was to-aay sentenced to death for a murderous assault committed on an old man at Dubbo. THE HAUROTO. Sydney, April 16. Sailed : Hauroto, for Wellington. THE WAIHORA. Sydney, April 16. Arrived : The s.s. Waihora, from New Zealand.
