GRAND BALL AT OTAHUHU.
The third of a series of entertainments which have been organised by the directors of the Otahuhu Public Hall Company, for the pur- ■ pose of liquidating the debt on the hall, was given in that building on Monday night. The former entertainments consisted of a concert and dance : on this occasion the whole evening was devoted to dancing, which commenced at nine p.m., and did not finish until four a.m. The music was supplied by Reid and Davidson's Band, consisting of piano, violin, clarionette, and bass viol, and was pronounced to be the best that has been heard in the hall for some time. Those who on former occasions have had reason to complain of the hall piano will be pleased to know that a considerable sum of money has been spent by the directors in repairing and improving this instrument. The work was entrusted to Mr. Evans, and the result is eminently satisfactory to all concerned, and will contribute much to the pleasure and convenience of both performers and audience in the future, and Eer ions now taking the hall can rely upon aving the use of a first-class instrument The arrangements for the ball were complete in every way, and a word of praise is due to Messrs. J. W. Wallace and *T. Hunt for the graceful and efficient manner in which they discharged the duties of M.C.'s. A good supper was provided in the anteroom. I understand that the next entertainment will be given in about a month, when a good concert will be given, to be followed by a re performance of the comedietta, "To Oblig. Benson."—[Own Correspondent.]
