♦ ■< [FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Hamilton, Friday. The Resident Magistrate's Court set again yesterday in the adjourned charge of cruelt to animals against James Forrest. The ca3 '•, was concluded, and judgment was reserve' until next Court-day. . A number of natives were about the town yesterday. They stated that they were on their way to a large native meeting to be held at Whatahaukoe to receive Sir J. Gorst, who they said, had arrived with five men-of-war from England. They seemed to look upon Sir J. Gorst as scarcely second in authority to the Queen, and is likely to do great things for the Maori race. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Hamilton, Friday. Mr. Calder's dwelling-house at Whatawhata has been burned down. The furniture was saved. Paeeoa, Friday. I understand that with regard to the extension of the Paeroa leaseholds, Mr. Mitchelson will carry out Mr. Ballance's promise to get the leases extended, and will endeavour to get a bill passed through the House removing the present disabilities.
