FIRE IN MELBOURNE.

NARROW ESCAPE OF THE OPERA

HOUSE.

[press association].

Melbourne, March 30. The Opera House had a narrow escape of being destroyed by fire last night. The hotel adjoining the theatre caught fire, but fortunately the flames were extinguished before serious damage was done, although it was not without great trouble that the brigade subdued what at one time looked as if it would result in a serious conflagration.
