MR. H. G. SETH SMITH'S VISIT TO ENGLAND.

FAREWELL FROM THE BAR.

A large number of the members of the legal profession were in attendance at the R.M, Court yesterday morning, when an expression of farewell was tendered by the Bar to Mr. H. G. Seth Smith, R. M. prior to his leaving on a visit to England. Before the ordinary Court business commenced,

Mr. Theo. Cooper said that, on behalf of the members of the Bar, he wished to offer a few remarks upon the occasion of His Worship's temporary retirement from office. During his presidency in that Court His Worship's bearing towards the Bar and the public had been marked by uniform courtesy ; whilst his decisions showed acuteness in law, together with a just and impartial view of the facts of each case brought before him. His holiday had been well-earned, and he (Mr. Cooper) on behalf of the Bar, tendered to His Worship their sincere wishes that his trip would bean enjoyable one, and that he would return to his duties re-invigorated. His Worship thanked Mr. Cooper and the members of the bar for their kindly feeling, and said that he was pleased that it had been recognised that he had endeavoured to render justice in his decisions, though, during his tenure of office, he had been called upon to decide many intricate cases. The testimony to the justice of his ruling gratified him exceedingly, and would be a pleasing recollection during his visit to the old country. He hoped that upon his return to the colony he would find that the depression had been removed, and that an era of renewed prosperity had been entered upon.
