THE TARIFF CONFERENCE. London, March 24. The Agents-General who attended the sitting of the Tariff Conference at Brussels have returned to London. They expressed themselves much gratified at the flattering position accorded the colonies at the Conference, and are confident that much benefit will accrue to trade and commerce from the labours of the Conference. Sir ,F. D. Bell, Agent-General for New Zealand, conducted the debates on behalf of the colonies.

THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES. Washington, March 24. It is reported that the Hon. Morrison R. Waite will shortly retire from the position of Chief Justice of the United States, and that he will be succeeded by Mr. Phelan.
