A BOAT ACCIDENT AT PAHI.

Me. Somnek, one of our local sportsmen and settlers, whilst proceeding last Friday to Northern Wairoa in his IS-footer open sailing boat, Blanche, to take part in the Aratapu regatta, gob struck in a squall about four miles from Pahi, where the boat capsized, tilled, and sank in about ten fathoms of water. Mr. Soinner hat! in company with him a friend, Mr. Lush. They were both entangled when she sank, and after a little struggle they managed to liberate themselves from their perilous positions. Great credit is duo to the two shipwrecked mariners for the way they assisted each other on to terra lirma. As soon as the news reached the township genial Mr Byrne, with his launch Sylph, and mate, got underweigh and proceeded to the spot where the Blanche sank. The above gentleman spared no labour, time, and skill in trying to assist the distressed owner, but with little result so far. I append the following particulars of the accident as gathered from the owner and sailer : —We were running with a fair wind, and got struck by a squall, her mainboom having touched the water at the time caused her to lose steerage way ; she then went over and filled. —[A Correspondent.]
