The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's direct steamer Coptic left Hobart at one o'clock on Saturday afternoon, direct for this port. She may therefore be expected to arrive to-morrow. By advertisement, the local agents, Messrs. Cruickshank and Co., request the consignees of the Auckland portion of her cargo to be in readiness to receive their goods from the vessel's slings, so as not to impede her discharge, and at the same time to save themselves the expense of storage. At 4.15 yesterday afternoon the Union S.S. Co. Wairarapa arrived from Melbourne via Southern ports, with a good number of passengers and a general cargo. Mr. H. C. Tayler, purser, supplies the following particulars of the trip The Wairarapa. left Melbourne at 6 p.m. on the 28th ultimo, and reached Hobart at 6 a.m. on the 29th; sailed again at 5 p.m.; arrived at Bluff at 5 p.m. on the 4th instant. Port Chalmers was reached at 5.30 a.m. on the 6th, where the Wairarapa remained until 5 p.m. on the 7th; called at Lyttelton on the Bth, Wellington on the 9th, Napier on the 10th, and Gisborne on the 11th, leaving the latter port at 9 a.m. Rounded the East Cape at 2.50 p.m., and passed Cape Colville at 12.40 p.m. on the 12th, arriving alongside the Queen-street Wharf as above. Fine weather was experienced from Melbourne to the Bluff, but from thence to Gisborne strong northerly winds prevailed. From Gisborne to Auckland strong westerly gales and heavy seas were encountered. The Northern Co.'s s.s. Wellington arrived ftom Whangarei this morning at an early hour, with a number of passengers and the following cargo :—l5O sacks gum, 50 sacks lime, 30 sacks oysters, 100 cases fruit, and sundries. The schooner Christina arrived at Whangarei at 5 p.m. yesterday from Auckland. At the N.Z. Timber Co.'s yards the schooner Mariner is discharging her inward cargo of sawn timber from Wnang.iroa. The brigantine Defiance, whose arrival was reported yesterday, entered in at the Customs during the day. Her agents, Messrs. James and Co., inform us that she will proceed up the harbour to Chelsea to discharge her coal. During yesterday forenoon "a schooner inside Tin" was signalled from the North Shore. She turned out to be the Devonport, from Newcastle, which made the harbour about 8 o'clock in the evening. Captain Greenwood reports that he left Newcastle about 10.30 a.m. on the 3rd instant, with a fresh southerly breeze and fine weather. Had moderately fresh breezes from the S. and S.W., until crossing the meridian of 167* east, when the wind veered to the M. W., and /. ,

the weather became unsettled. The wmd changed suddenly from N.AV. to W.S.W., in squalls with heavy ram. At 8 p.m. on the 10th in one of these squalls, the mamtopcalla'nt yard was carried away. Cape Maria Van Dienien light was sighted at 3 a.m. on the 11th, and the North Cape rounded at 9 30 a.m., and Cape Brett at 8 p.m. on the same date. Had fresh westerly winds up the coast and anchored in Rangitoto Channel at 10 30 a.m. on the 12th. In lat. 35"40 S., long. 165 - W., sighted the brig Vision, bound from Kaipara to Sydney. _ Yesterday the brigantino forest Hing, Captain Bo'ore, was entered out at the Customs by her agents for Sydney. Her date of sailing is put down as to-day. At ten o'clock this morning the s.s. Southern Cross will take her departure direct for Dunedin. Yesterday evening the s.s. Stormbird arrived in good time from Whangarei with a large number of passengers, whose names are given above, and a cargo of 25 sacks gum, 15 sacks oysters, 5 cases fruit, 1 ton sundries. By telegram from Waiwera we were informed yesterday forenoon that a barque was off Tiri inward bound, but up to a late hour she had not put in an appearance. Captain Amodeo, of the steamer lonn,_ reports that on Saturday afternoon, when oft* Cape Colville, he sighted the barque Mary A. Greenwood outward bound from this port, making splendid progress, bearing away to the eastward. On Saturday evening the schooner Curlew, which had left port about midday, found the weather outside rather too rough, and put back into the harbour until a chango in the wind occurred. The schooners Gisborne and Waianu sailed yesterday morning from Poverty Ba_y for Auckland. The former has Messrs. Chrisp (2) as passengers. At the Queen-street Wharf the schooner Queen is discharging her inward cargo of bark, and the Waiwera is also preparing to discharge. Captain Buike of the latter is to be congratulated on making a record in his last voyage to and from Norfolk Island, the return trip being done under three weeks; the return passage taking only five days.
