Bonuses will be touched, and uncertificated teachers are made to bear con* slderable redaction. There is a reduction in the amount granted to school committees, the total saving being £2000.
Blenheim, Thursday. Reports of the harvest, notwithstanding the north-west gales, are favourable from all parts of the district. There are some magnicent crops of wheat, oats, barley, and potatoes, and the average is likely to be higher than for years past. An old evident, who came out to kelson early in the forties, died yesterday Mrs. Ottersen, mother of the Clerk of Bills, House of Representatives. The deceased lady, who was aged 84, had a large circle of friends in Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Wellington. Some important sales of properties have transpired during the >7eek. Three sections at St. Leonard's, lately offered at auction, realised £3500, or about £27 per acre, but there were some valuable buildings on the property, including a new eight-roomed residence, The land was within three miles of Blenheim. W. B. Girling, a well-known draper, has purchased Robinson Brother*' properties for £.1450 cash. This is on a basis of £25 par foot frontage in Market Place, the centre of the town, and £12 for frontage to Highkstreet und Cross-street leading off. There are some buildings on the properties, the estimated value of them being £300 to £400.

Wellington, Thursday. At a meeting of wheelmen it was decided to form a Cycling Club, and take steps to form a track.
The Government intend to make an animal saving of £150 in the wages paid for the chief cook at Bellamy's by appointing a female instead of a male.
