| PRESS ASSOCIATION'. Ellington, ' Tuesday. The weather continues bad and wet.
The Education Board to-day summarily dismissed John O'Brien, master of the Kaitoko School, with whom the committee has had a dispute. O'Brien is believed to have left the district.
At the Supreme Court, Leonard Tyler, alias Tyler Fairfax, pleaded guilty to breaking aud entering. Sentence was deferred. Thomas Thompson, already undergoing sentence, was convicted of forgery, and was sentenced to three years' penal servitude, to date from the termination of his present sentence. Charles Nicholson was acquitted on a charge of larceuy. There was a meeting of the Central Board of Health to-day, presided over by the Colonial Secretary, to consider the question of the outbreak of smallpox in Tasmania. After a long discussion, during which no resolution was come to, the meeting was postponed to a future day. Judge Richmond has decided that the Official Assignee must admit the City Advance Compauy claim to prove for £1900 on the Waters' estate.
Grevkooth, Tuesday. Malachi Taylor, of Bronnerton, brewer, was to-day fined £10 and costs for a breach of the sixth section of the Beer Act, ISSO.
Tho Harbour Board have resolved to offer the proprietor of the tug Westland £SSOO for her. -
Westport, Tuesday. The Harbour Biard have accepted the resignation of Mr. C. Napier Bell as board engineer, and are inviting applications for the post at £500 a year. Blenheim, Tuesday. P.ctou School Committee selected out of 35 applications Mr. C. C. Howard, formerly head of the Training College at Wellington, and Miss Hay, as master and mistress of Picton School. The Education Board confirmed the recommendation to-day. CnRisTCHCUCH, I uesday. The Supreme Court was occupied all day with the cases of Charles Thomas Harris, and Henry Gilbanks, Thomas Potter, and Daniel Marks, stealing and receiving goods from the D.I.C. warehouse. Potter and Marks were convicted, and sentences were deferred. The other case is unfinished.
Two milkmen wore convicted of selling adulterated milk to-day. One, whose milk contained skim milk and was SO per cent, deficient of cream, was fined 40>; the other, who sold milk containing 10 per cent, of water and 20 per cent, or skim milk, was fined 80s.
Tho Canterbury Rifle Association, formed some six months ago, have adopted their programme for the meeting on Boring Day and two following days. Tfc shows about £110 divided among six matches, three of them open to all comers, besides small bore and team matches.
Ddnkdix, Tuesday. Charles Julias, a member of tho Permanent Artillery, died at Otago Heads suddenly this morning, from what cause is not known. He had been married only a few weeks. The entries for the horao parade number 37, against 59 last year, the decrease being chiefly in Clydesdale mares.
Tho annual concert in aid of St. Mary's Convent is to be held to-night in tho City Hall, and a really attractive and charming programme has been arrangod.
