SMALL-POX AT LAUNCESTON.

Launceston, September 25. An outbreak of small pox has occurred here. Nine cases have already been reported, and one death has resulted.

The following cablegram was received by His Worship the Mayor (Mr. A. Devore) yesterday ~ from the secretary of the Central Board of Health, HobaW :—

"Central Board of Health, Auckland. —Outbreak of a mall-pox reported at Launceston. Four cases, one fatal. Order of Governor-in-Council has directed isolation of patients, and all precautionary measures have been taken. V7ill telegraph details on receipt of further information."

The moafi of the passenger traffic from Hobar'; corned to New Zealand via the Bluff, by the Union steamers from Melbourne, but passengers eooasionally go to Melbourne overland to Sydney, and come on to Auckland direct. His Worship the Mayor has notified Dr. Lewis, Health Officer, of the information received, so that the necessary precautionary measures miiy be taken.
