MR. VAILE'S ELECTION.

lADVERTIBWIKNT. ]

TO THE F.DITOS. Sir,—As a lover of [airplay, I beg spaevta your paper for a few remarks on the leading article of Thursday night's Star. The Editor is desirous of helping Mr. Thompson's return to Parliament, to whioh end he sees fit to travel a little out of the line of fact. However, foreseeing the probability of Mr. Vaile'a election, he usee Mr. Fraeer's name as a go-between or shield. Is it because Mr. Fras »r saw fit to act contrary to the wishes of the majority of the members of the Association he represented that we should lose the services of such a gentleman as Mr. Vaile? Will the electors of Auokland North swallow such an absurdity that Mr. Vaile oould do more good for us out of Parliament than In ! Or is it because the scepticism of Mr. Fraser is shared by the Editor that we are to believe that Mr. Vaile means only to reduce passenger fares, when that gentleman has publicly told us the contrary, and has given sufficient reasons why the fares adjustment must precede that of the goods tariff, The Editor would have his readers believe that Mr. Vaile's political notions begin and end in his proposed railway reform. Surely he did not hear Mr. Vaile at the Opera House, and, if having failed to do bo, he should attend the promised address at the City Hall to* night, and I feel certain he will have reason to say that Mr. Vaile has ideas on other matters as well as railway reform. In conclusion, 1 hope every elector will use his own judgment, and voto for the man whom he thinks will do the most good for the greatest number.—l am, &c,, An Elector,
