EDEN ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOK.
Sir, — attended Mr. Connell'a meeting last evening in Wsite's Hall, and I will now freely admit that he is indeed a great "tactician." lie is not so very boanoible and straight out as when he started this ever-to-be-remembered campaign. He is not such an out-and out freetrader now, and I doubt not would eventually come to answer all questions put to him after the style of one of the candidates for a city constituency, vix , " Most decidedly so." I must say that I am " most decidedly " disappointed in Mr. Conuell, as from his outspoken and fearless manner when he come out first, I was convinced that he would continue to see ttiem " d—d first" before he would ' trim" the" least little bit. But, after all Mr. Gonnell, I now see, is only human, and it is only in the nature of things that we should find him doing his Etmost to try and please everybody, so that he may gain his or his party's ends, *Je satisfactorily cleared up the "shooting in the head" statement, so the unemployed may now be at ease in respect to this phase of Mr. Connell'a tactics, cad I believe that he wiU not only not shoot them in the head," but m thin deltas to be one of the many " native industries" of New Zealand, he will eventually " foster it with a bonus." To all appearance the question of money will not stand iu the way of Mr. Connell's return, and I was so expressing myself the other day, when I was told that a most intimate friend of his was heard to say, "the eleotion would not cost Mr. Connell one single penny." 1 doubt this very much, but still, as the Scotch proverb says," There's aye some water whar the atir drooned."—Lam, &c., Eden Elector.
