WAIUKU.
Professor Lio Mkdo has boen hero for the past foraight lecturing on phrenology, See. The professor ha* given five or six leotures. Although not largely attended, those present listened with marked attention, aud apparently enjoyed the entertainment. JHe has also heen making several private examinations, and succeeded in estimating the characters of those he has examined very accurately. The professor leaves Waiuku during the coming week. Dr. Forester Waustall gave an entertainment here in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening last. There were not many present. Amongst other things the doctor recited the foem," Enoch Arden," in a masterly manner, believe the doctor purposes coming to reside here, and start a practice. The weather has been very rough this list week or more, blowing very hard and cold. The farmers are busy getting in their orops. Several of them have sown a few acres of wheat, which, it is to be hoped, will yield satisfactory results. Quantities of oats, beans, peas, barley, etc., ate being pat in, and should the season be favourable, no doubt those orops will pay for the outlay, The Maori election passed off very quietly. Little interest was taken in the matter. There were only 34 votes recorded here, and 31 Kohanga.— Correspondent.]
