VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

" A " BATTERY V. VICTORIA RIFLES. The following are the scores made in the above match, ten shots at each range, arms being changed after each five shots :—

This leaves a balance of 33 points in favour of the Rifle. It is, however, to ba remembered that the winning team scored three points more with the carbines than with their own weapons. Considering, therefore, that the match was really won by the Carbine score of the winning team againet the Carbine score of the losers—the total difference on this basis being 44 points, it appears tolerably olear that the Carbioes are in no way inferior to the Rifles—a question whioh this mutch was intended, if poeeible, to settle. It is hoped that a, return match will be fired at an early date. LBY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunbmn, Monday. Colonel Sargood when here held out hopes that the High School cadets might meet the ondets of the School College, Melbourne, in a rifle competition. The difficulty was that the two corps are armed with different weapone. Mr. Sargood has now sent over a number of rifles, and a thousand rounds of ammunition of the type used in the Victorian schools. It ie likely, therefore, that the Otago High School cadets will shortly try their prowess against five or six companies of Victorian cadets.
