They complained that they should be allowed to compete and take their chance, and the Chairman of the Hospital Board agreed to ask the Government Engineer, in whose charge the works were, to alter the conditions accordingly. The Benevolent Institution Committee ro« solved to-day that all applications for outdoor relief from persons residing outside the limits of the city, and all papers in connection with such application, should be forwarded to the local body of the district in which the applicant resides, and that pending a report from them none but temporary relief in urgent cases should be granted. The Otago Rugby Union will not send a team to New South Wales in response to the invitation of the Sydney Union.
