NEWTON ROAD FOOTPATHS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Permit me through the medium of your valuable paper to call the attention of the City Council to the very unfinished state of the footpaths in Newton Road. .Notwithstanding that they are formed in terms of specification of contract, it is, nevertheless, a fact that bo roughly-finished are they that pedestrians prefer walking on the atone kerbing or in the gutter. I would suggest a remedy (and one which has already proved itself effectual on the crossings of the abovenamed road), viz.:—lnstead of throwing away the road-sweepings from, say, Symondsstreet, as done at present, the same be spread over the existing footpaths, when I am confident the result would be satisfactory, and, furthermore, inexpensive.—I am, &c., Vbrbpm Sat Sapibnti.
