THE TAMAKI BLIDGE DIFFICULTY.

o In reference to the stoppage of shipping business on the Tamaki Iti ver,o wing to the closing of the bridge, the following letters have been, received by Mr. L. Daore, the owner of the cutter Isabel, which has been delayed for a fortnight owing to the uncertainty as to who is responsible for the maintenance and management of the bridge. The man who has charge of the bridge writes:— •'I am willing to open the bridge if 1 knew who is to pay me lor my labour done, and who is my master." Mr. Daore wrote to the Pakuranga Road Board about the matter, and received the following letter in repty, dated April 2, ISS7: —"1 have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of March 30, which I only received to-day, and I am instructed to inform you that the Pakuranga Road Board has never accepted the control and maintenance of the Tamaki Bridge, therefore thie Board is in no way responsible for the detention of your cutter. —Alexander Bkll, Clerk Pakuranga Road Board." The cutter, which went up the river and discharged a cargo of bonedust, is unable to return until the bridge is opened, of which there does not seem at present much prospects until the question raised by the keeper of the bridge is decided. In the meantime all traffic is stopped, as it has been for a fortnight. The Government, who have hitherto had oharge of the bridge, state that the responsibility and control have been handed over to the Pakuranga Road Board.
