GOLD DISCOVERY AT LUCAS CREEK.

Oer own correspondent writes:—-There can . be no doubt of payable gold being in this and other districts to the northwards. At Dairy Fiat, about seven miles from here, Messrs. Foloy, Clinton, and several others, are working on a reef which contains an unlimited amount of gold-bearing stuff. They have had samples from various parts of the reef :ested by Messrs. Fraser and Tinne and Mr. Oalbraith, of Auckland. A parcel of stuff vas also sent to the Thames. All the sam* plea sent were tested and found to contain a piyable amount of gold and some silver. As showing the faith these meu, who are all permanent settlers, have in tbe prospects of the.r find, though not men of large means, thej have erected a four-stamper battery, oons;ructed a dam, and mado other necessa/y workb, and have got out a large amount of staff ready for crushing. All they are now waiting for is water, of which there will b> plenty all seasons of the year except during very dry times. If such prospects were obtained in some other districts, funds would sot be lacking to carry them on to a succoestul issue. As the precious metals are known o be here, Messrs. H. Lloyd and Moyle a:e also prospecting. The lalter gentleman h,is a large soam o: coal on his property. It is about one mile and three quarters :rom high-water mark—higher up tho creek. The seam crops out in the bed of a side The whole district wants thoroughly prospecting. I believe Mr. Moyle has!;ried the coal, aud it burns well.
