[OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Paekoa, Monday. At the Police Court this day, before Mr. H. A. Stratford, R.M., John Dean was charged on a warrant with committing a rape on the person of Sarah Simeon. The case was heard with closed doors, and much of . the evidence was nufifc for publication. After hearing voluminous evidence the Resident Magistrate severely criticised the prisoner's gross misconduct, but thought there was no prima facie case. Accused was discharged. William Boden and J. D&noe were charged with stealing fruit from the orchard of Mr. J. W. Thorp. Boden waa discharged and Dance fined £1. Judgment summons: Hoaio v. Campbell, £9 7s 4d, order £2 per month or 12 daye ; Phillipe v. Takeri, goods supplied, jadgment for £21 Os 10d; Eobson v. Mrs. George Smith, £5 freight, nonsuited, costs 30it; MoLoghry v. J. Chambers (Auckland) and Watson, £216 a wages, judgment by default; Marmian; v. (Jorbott, claim £97, shares sold: jurisdiction ousted, this being • a partnership affair; D. Snodgraso v. Riki Paka, claim £55 for. goods supplied. In thia case much of the demand was for "loaves." The E.M. stated that ho had no jurisdiction re such iteme, and could even fine the plaintiff £2 for each of such items on the bill were an information laid. Be would allow of the bill being referred back with coats until the next sitting of the Court. Thames, Monday. George Symington, landlord of the Theatre Royal Hotel, died at six o'clock thia evening. Much dissatisfaction exists abont the rais* ing of insurance rates 25 per cent. It is absurd to class the Thames with coutitry districts, as the water supply and brigade are quite equal to Auckland, whilst the firea have not averaged more than one a year, and the losses even then were generally very light.
