THE TE ARO ELECTION.
Ley telegraph.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Wednesday. Mr. Travkrs addressed too electors of Te Aro this evening in the Opara House. The audience was thin for snch an occasion, only the stalls being filled. The topics of his speech embraced most of the heads of current politics. He was in favour of economical Government. Ho pointed out a variety of ways in which money was expended unprotitably, but the most interesting feature of his speech was that which related to freetrade. He announced himself as a thorough believer in the genera) principle of freetrade. Jn respect to municipal matters be believed that a great deal of money was waited iu elections and various objects. Although be was applauded frequently there was no particular enthusiasm excited by his speech. Speaking of Mr. Travers, I am told that if he ia elected for Te Aro he will be at the same time the "father of the House," aud one of its "junior" members.
