THE PROPOSED SPECIAL SETTLEMENT AT TE AROHA.

m Messrs. Brothers and Smith, who wenl uptoTe Arobato inspect a large block o land in that neighbourhood, selected by the AssiatautSurveyor-General, Mr. Percy Smith, for the purpose of forming a settlement under the Village Settlement Regulations, have re turned and report that they recommend tin cutting up of home 1000 acres having frontage to Hamilton Road and the railway, betweei the Waihou railway-station and Te Arobs recreation reserve. The land is good swamp land, and is already partially drained, and is covered with tall tea-tree and flax, and there is plenty of firewood on the land for some time to come in the shape of roots ol trees aud logs. They also recommend the cutting up into sections of some 700 acres on the road to the Waitoa that runs through the block, which is much superior land, and fronts a good main road that runs from tho aihou railway-station, and is only distant about a mile from that station. The whole of the land is perfectly level, and will grow anything. There are settlers around and a school at Waihou. They are in sight of To Aroha, where there is a market for poultry, egg», etc. Tho only drawback that Messrs. Brothers and Smith can see is that there is no material for fencing purposes, excopting by ditch and bank and wattling, and having to sink for water. Timber can bo bought reasonably at Te Aroha, and cartage is plen* tiful and low, and ploughing from 6s to 9s per acre. Messrs. Brothers aud Smith also recommend that the Government give tho settlers work in cutting a main drain right through the centre of the block, and to form and drain a road along the line of railway to Te Aroha.
