The Australian Agents-General have addressed a communication to Mr. Blackrood, Secretary of Post Office, protesting against the negotiations relative to the contract for the carriage of mails to the Australian colonies being postponed till the meeting of the Imperial Conference, as such delay was unnecessarily prejudicial to the colonies. The Orient Company has intimated its willingness to accept a bonus of £550 per voyage for the carriage of mails.

The Australian Agents-General had an interview yesterday with Mr. Cecil Raikes, Postmaster-General, in which they urged the acceptance of the contracts offered for the carriage of mails to Australia. In reply, Mr. Raikes said he wished to have the views of the Imperial Conference on the qusstion. Ho would, however, refer the matter to Sir Henry Holland, Secretary of State for the Colonies.
