AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the members of the above association was held in the City Guards room, at the Drill-shed, last evening. There was a very good attendance of members present, inoluding Lieut.-Colonel Mahon (in the ohair), Major Pirie, Captains George, Whitney, and White, and 30 other members. The report and balanoe>sheet for the past year were read by the Seoretary (Mr. W, Jennings).

The fifteenth annual report was as follows :—

Your committee have much pleasure In submitting the following report for your consideration : -The annual prize tiring held at Henderson on Good Friday, Saturday, and Monday, m»y be characterised as successful in many respects. The weather was slightfully fine for th» three days' shooting ; th re ware nearly doable the number of competitors at the firing this year, compared with the previous one; and the amount of prizs money and trophies were also on a proportionately lame scale. The amount of money pa><d in prizes was £18" ; and the value of new trophies not including Bock's, Evcnine Star Cup, and the Citizen*' trophy— other prizes, *ai £83 18s 6d. To Mr. W Metis may be attributed the foregoing result, for that gentleman deroted considerable time and trouble in working up the Citizens' and Auckland volunteer match. Your commltiee regret that, owing to the postponement of the firing from January to Kaster, the expenses have been heavier than uiual. All tbn advertising and postage for the January meeting was thrown away, an > there was the additional expense of s tiding telegrams and re-writlnt , letters. The postponement cost the Association close on £10. Your committee would like to niake a suggestion fur futur committees, re sighting shot;, and that is, that two sighting shot* oe fixed far each range at future competition*, tberebr increasing the revenue .funds of the Association. Out of 85 competitors at the meeting-, it mar be satisfactory to know that them were 41 prize winners. > oar committee would not feel as if their duty was ended satisfactorily if they did not call attention to the vrrr liberal manner in which the citizens of tuckianii responded to the collection, and they would make special mention of Mr. J. MeCosh Clarke, J. C. Firth, and Dr. Logan Campbell, and Mr. Devore, who have consistently supported the

uckland Rifle Association from its infancy up to the present time. To Colonel Lyons and Major shepherd the thanks of the committee art* due for the valuable - rises presented. To Captain ",eßoy, Major Mabon, Lieutenants Keesing and Schmitt, and .Sergeant Blrley the thanks of the Association are due for (he efficient assistance given as register-keepers To T. Henderson the members of the association are under a debt of gratitude for the use of the range at Henderson. Members of the association are, no doubt, aware that the committee of the association at a meeting to which officers cominunaing corps were specially invited to attend, passed the following resolution :—" That the Auckland Rifle Association promisee its hearty support to the proposal for a competition for sreond and third-class shots, the competition to be held within six months fiom date of Kaster meeting." Your committee now think that some steps should be taken to give eff-et to the foregoing resolution, as the primary object of th* Auckland Kitie Association is that of promoting r fl» shooting, and fo.terinjr the volunteer movement in the city and province of Auckland. In conclusion, your committee think that, taking into consideration the distance and the gre.-.t expense attendant on visiting the New Zealand -.ifle Association meet ng», also the amount of time required, that the Auckland Kifie Association should put forth a programme next year of such a nature that it will be satisfactory to our members to devote their whole interest and support to tbe local • escalation.
