Melbourne, November 1. The weather was fine and cool this morning for training purposes. Trenton yesterday did the best mile of the season, and this morning was sent two miles at a moderate pace. Ben Bolt, Kingfish, Crossfire, Bravo, Lord William, Commotion, Arsenal, Sheet Anchor, Britisher, and Recall were out, and did serviceable gallops. Trident, Monte Christo and Hex hum were treated to moderate exercise. Metal was sent a strong gallop, and finished well. Malua is in splendid condition, and compassed a mile and a half in fine style. Kitawa did a good gallop over the Cup distance. Cyclops spurted forja mile, finishing well. At Caulfield yesterday Little John did a splendid performance over two miles. Silvermine and Highland Chief were sent a mile and a half, moving freely. In the Derby, when rounding the home turn, Chesham did not roll on to the rails, but Volcano tripped Trident, who was behind these two, had to pull out and go right round the horses. THE BETTING ON THE CUP. 10.30 p.m. Isonomy has come up with a rush, and has been backed for large amounts at 6 to 1, Meteor and Ben Bolt are 100 to 12 (off), Little John 100 to 10 (tkn), Trenton 100 to 7 (tkn), Arsenal, Sheet Anchor, Lord William, Crossfire, and Hexham are weaker. The outsiders backed are Kitawa, Britisher, Jack Roach, and Bohemian. To-day Meteor was backed to win several thousands at hundred to seven. There was a large attendanoe at Tattersalls to-night. 5 to 1 was offered against Trident, and 7 to 1 against Isonomy. Midnight. Much animation is being manifested in tho betting market.
