BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.

PARNELL. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held yesterday evening, at the offices, Manukan Road. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. Winks), Messrs. McConnell, MoCabe, Whitley, Lyell, Savage, Kidd, and Gay. ! pondenoe.—Edward Frost wrote asking tor a transfer of license to slaughter on the premises, small stock, from E. Hallett to him for remainder of year, when a proper application would be made. Transfer granted. John Coom, Resident Engineer of the Auckland railways, wrote in reply to the Council's letter of Ootober 7, re the bridge at entrance to the Domain, that the bridge is not in charge of the Railway Department. The Domain authorities are responsible for it. It was resolved to send a copy of the letter to the City Counoil.— Brace well wrote asking that scoria might be put on the road in front of his house in Cheshirestreet. Deferred till next meeting.—F. J. Saunderaon wrote on behalf of the St. George's Rowing Club asking if it was possible to have the water mains extended to the beaoh in Judge's Bay, so that the olubs might be supplied with water, and offering to pay either the general rate or a special consumption rate for the water used. Decided that it was not possible to do so as the distance was too great.—A. Brett wrote a long letter in reply to the refusal of his application of Ootober 6 re a nuisance caused by a drain. He threatened to : sue for damages unless the drain was attended to. It was decided to refer the matter to the Streets Committee, and that Mr. Brett be asked to attend.—Frederick Ireland wrote granting leave to the Counoil to cut down the Manukau Road opposite Holme Court, provided the ground was sloped, and the fence and wall re-ereoted. Letter received. The Clerk read a precis of the Local Bodies Loans Aot, whioh bad been forwarded from Wellington. The document was received. Accounts.—The fortnightly accounts were read and passed. Reports.—Mr. P. Gardiner, foreman of works and inspector of nuisances, sent in his report, from which it appeared that affairs were in a very satisfactory condition. The report was adopted. Mr. Thomas Judge reported that W. Cottingham had resigned the office of lieutenant in the Fire Brigade, and that B. Green had been appointed in bis place, subject to the Council's approval. It was resolved to accept Mr. Cottingham's resignation, and a vote of thanks was passed to him for his past services. The appointment of Mr. Green was confirmed. Petition.—A petition was received from a number of ratepayers re the cutting down of Manukau Road, asking that only strippings from the road be put on the cutting and not clay, and that the footpaths be left as they are. Resolved to refer the matter to the Streets Committee for thorough investigation. __ ONEHUNGA. ■ The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. There were present:—His Worship the Mayor (Dr. W. G. Scott), Messrs. Hill, Howe, Tapp, Wilson, Keehan, Goldsbury, and Sheldriok. Correspondence.—The following corresSondenoe was read and dealt with : —From bmmissioner of Lands, recommending the Council to refer back to N.Z. Gazettes of 1873 and ISS3 for information touching the approaches to Mangere Bridge. From Survey Office, informing tbe Counoil that the approach to wharf was a public road under the control of the borough. From Gas Company, enclosing a copy of letter as published in Herald. From Mrs. Gibbons, informing the Counoil that she had taken over certain Sroperties in the borough. From Treasury ffioe, enclosing copy Local Bodies Loans Act. From J. Courtney, calling the attention ef the council to the state of Pleasent-street, which was in a very bad condition, and urging the council to have scoria placed on it. Referred to Streets Committee. From J. Mclntyre, asking permission to remove weighbridge from property of N. Barnes, to be placed fronting his own property at the wharf. Granted. Tenders.— following tenders were received for filling a portion of Selwynstreet: From J. McMahon and E. B. Pioknell, each at 9d per yard. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr. Sheldriok, the tonder of Mr. MoMahon was aocepted. Captain-street: The tenders of W. Brierly, J. MoMahon, and W. Wilson were opened, and that of J. McMahon, for the sum of £15 14s was accepted. Alfred-street: From W Brierly, £17 17s; W. Lynch, £35. The tender of W. Brierly was acoepted. Fitzoy street: From J. MoMahon, £9 9s 6d ; W. Brierly, £11 ss. The tender of J. MoMahon was acoepted. Balance-Sheet.—The Town Clerk produced and read the balance-sheet for the half-year ending 30th September, which showed the receipts for that term to be £1234 12s. Financial Statement.—The Town Clerk reported the balance at last meeting to be £255 4s 2d ; paid in during term, £20 15s 3d ; paid away, £69 15s, leaving a balance of £227 7s lOd, with liabilities under contract amounting to £255 6s. Accounts. —A number of accounts were passed for payment. Finance Committee. — The committee recommends re Mr. McPike's claim tbat bis attention be drawn to section 46 of the Impounding Aot, 1884. Re Mr. Luokie's inquiry as to whether the Counoil intended to accept tbe loan of £5000 for waterworks plant, the committee recommends that no action be taken pending the calling of tenders, and that Mr. Luckie be acqainted with the sime. On the motion of Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Rowe, the report was adopted. Slaughterhouse Road.—Mr. Tapp moved tbat tenders be called for having a portion of Slaughterhouse Road made. Mr. Sheldriok seconded the motion pro forma, but was sorry he could not support it, as he considered there was no traffic on the road. Mr. Wilson supported the motion. Mr. Rowe moved as an amendment, seconded by Mr. Wilson, "That tenders be called for the work, and further, that legal advice be taken as to whether the revenue from the reserves could be spent by the Council in forming the said road which adjoins the reserve, and, should the legal opinion be not favourable, that the matter again come before the Council." Agreed to. QPumps.—Mr. Tapp moved, " That tenders be called for supply of a pump for Captain Springs." Seconded by Mr. Goldsbury, and agreed to. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr. Goldsbury, it was agreed that Mr. Mclntyre be instructed to keep the borough pomps in repair during the ensuing year. Dog Nuisance.—The Mayor moved, seconded by Mr. Hill, "That proceedings be taken against all those persons who have negleoted to register their dogs." Unregistered Carriers.— the motion of Mr. Rowe, seconded by Mr. Hill, it was agreed "That all carriers plying for hire be notified that proceedings will be taken against them should they fail to take out a license." ~ _ Notices of Motion.—Mr. Tapp gave notice to move at next meeting, " That in future all tenders lie on the table for eight days before being acoepted." Mr. Hill gave notice to move at next meeting, "That a portion of George-street be formed and metalled."
