In the District Court this morning, a motion was made for the removal of Mr. William Humphries, a bankrupt, from the trusteeship in the estate cf William Oourtney, an arranging debtor. Mr. Samuel appeared for Mr. Siinpaon, one of the trustees. The other trustee is dead. The Court granted the application, and appointed F. P. Corkill iu the place of William Humphries, but allowed the latter a guinea for legal costs. Mr. Humphries applied for a commission on the amount received in the estate, but the Court refused, holding that it would be a bad precedent that trustees should receive commission where they had to be removed, and had not completed their trust. The Collector of Customs made a seizure of forty silver watches and nine gold watches this morning from a jeweller'*! shop just opened here. The watches are supposed to have been introduced in some luggage which passed entry at the Customs about a month ago, tbe circumstance of some of the articles being dutiable not being disclosed. Welliwgtow, Thursday. William Templeton, alias Piper, has been committed for trial for burglariously entering the sample rooms of the Empire Hotel, and stealing a quantity of wearing apparel. The outbreak of scab in the Wairarapa district is supposed at present to be merely confined to some sheep which have been running wild on a patch of bush on Government land. The plaoe is very remote, and far from a telegraphic station, which accounts for no news having yet been received from Inspector Baillie. It was stated that a Christchurch team will visit here about Christmas, and a visit from a. Nelson team is also expected. DuNEDisr, Thursday. Six runs were offered for sale to-day by the Government auctioneer, but only o.uo was sold. Two tradesmen, who decided to contest the right of the police to order the removal of goods hanging in the doorway, and slightly abutting on the etreefc, were tined 0a and costs after inspection by the it.M. The Harbour Board have adopted by-laws providing for charging only one pilotage on steamers calling more than once, one each voyage.
