TE AROHA DOMAIN BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I think it is high time that the public and also the Government should be informed of the manner in which the Domain Board are carrying on. In the first place, you are aware that the persons who represent the Domain Board are nominated by the Governor, and that for life, or until they think proper to resign. This I consider most unfair and unjust to the residents here. I certainly think that they ought only to hold office for twelve months, and then be re-elected or fresh ones in their place, and that the elections should be vested in the hands of the residents here, and not in the hands of the Governor, who cannot form the remotest idea who are fit for such a position, It Is all very well for people to say, "See what a vast amount of improvements have been made all through the energy of your chairman." My answer to this is : Anyone would and could have done the same if he had the money at his command. One thing no wise chairman nor Board of sense would have permitted, i.e., allowed a large sum of money to be spent in forming a croquet ground. lam certain Government never granted money for that purpose. I may tell you that this croquet round was formed > to please a few, and during last season not more than six games were played on it. When the Board was first nominated they appointed one of themselves as secretary and treasurer, and you can form some idea how the money is being spent when a sub-secretary and treasurer has been appointed at a salary of £10 per year. Has the Board power to allow certain families to use the baths free and make others pay ? To my knowledge about 20 families have that privilege. We have only two good men on the Domain Board (Messrs. Gavin and Quinn), who try all they can to put a stop to this, but they unfortunately are always in the minority and oan do nothing. The residents here ought to know how the money is being spent, amd certainly ought to have a say in the carrying out of the improvements, for there has been and will be money spent uselessly (vide croquet ground) if the residents have not a say in the matter The chairman is a very good man, but, if the elections are vested in the hands of the residents, I make no doubt a better can be found. A meeting of the residents should be called every year, when a statement, of aocouuts should be laid before the meeting. i —I am &c., Who Don't go is Free, Te Aroha, June 2.
