CHANG INTENDS TO SETTLE DOWN.

Chang Yu §ing, better known as Chang, the Chinese Giant, drove down in a hack to the County Courthouse a few days ago, in company with his manager, Mr. Cameron, and declared his intention of becoming a citizen of tho United States, foreswore allegiance to the Emperor of China, and took out his first' naturalisation papers. He signed his name in both Chinese and English characters, and then, with a satisfied smile on his face, entered the hack and drove away. To » Times reporter Chang said that he had some money which he wished to invest in this country, and as a citizen the investments would bo safer. Besides, he had long intended to take out naturalisation papers. He said he was much pleased with the push and progress of Kansas city, and intended to invest his money here, and make this his future home. At present he has a £9000 real estate deal, on hand. Ho intended in a short time to quit the show business and take up his residence here. He would make one more visit to China, and then return here and settle. His idea was to open a Chinese store, and his manager was already looking out for a suitable location. His relatives, Chang said, were engaged in a tea business in China, and he would import to Kansas < ity direct. Asked as to whether there is any truth in the report which started last summer to the effect that there is a young lady in Kansas City with whom he had matrimonial designs, Chang smiled and said that that was a delicate question, and he didn't care to talk much about it. His manager, however, assured the reporter that the rumour was correct, and that at no very distant day Chang might bo expected to take out a marriage license. Chang said that he did not wish to disclose the name of the young lady at present.—Kansas City (Mo.) Times.
