MR. J. D. WRIGLEY, OF TAURANGA, DROWNED.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Tauranga, Monday. A sad accident occurred on Wednesday evening, by which Mr. John Dale Wrigley, latterly of the firm of Wrigloy and Sons, brewers, here, was drowned. He was proceeding to the Island of Motiti with Mr. James Home, when in going forward he caught his foot in one of the ropes, and was precipitated into the water. The boat was then between two and, three miles frem Motiti, aud sailing very fast, and before Mr. Home could get the boat round Mr. Wrigley had disappeared from view, after coming to tho surface twice. The deceased was an accomplished swimmer,but b»>'ng encumbered with an overcoat and top boots, he had but little chance of his life. It was Sunday evening before tho news of the sad event reached here, owing to the boisterous weather that has prevailed lately. The sad occurrence has cast a gloom over the whole community, deceased being well known and popular. He leaves a wife and one child to mourn their loss.
