DEATH OF MRS. HESKETH.

Another of Auckland's oldest colonists passed away to her eternal home yestorday afternoon. This was Mrs. Hesketh, relict of the late Mr. Emanuel Hesketh, aud mother of Messrs. Charles, Edwin, and Samuel Hesketh. Mrs. Hesketh arrived in Auckland in 1559, with five children, two of whom are since dead, but the remaining three are still alivr. and prominent members of the community. Mr. Charles Hesketh, the eldest, is a partner in the well-known firm of Hesketh and Aitken, seed and produce merchants. The next is Mr. Edwin Hesketh, the surviving membor of the firm of Hesketh and Richmond, solicitors, and one of the most prominent and successful pleaders at the New Zealand bar. The youngest, son is Mr. Samuel Hesketh, also engaged in the office of Hesketh and Richmond, and who has already made his mark as a painstaking and reliable barrister and solicitor. Mrs. Hesketh resided up to the time of her death at the residence of her sou, Mr. Edwin Hesketh, at St. John's Wood, Epsom. Her life has been one devoted to works of charity, which she pursued in the most unostentatious manner. Recently her age and infirmity prevented her from mixing with much society, but her delight and self-imposed duty was to seek out her poorer neighbours and render them such assistance as best suited their wants. She will be greatly missed by many of those. Mrs. Hesketh came to JN'ew Zealand from Cheetham Hill, near Manchester, and expired yesterday afternoon, after a prolonged illness, in the 74th year of her age. Although not unexpected, the death of Mrs. Hesketh has caused a very painful shock amongst her friends and relatives, To Mr. I'M win Hesketh, who recently went to England for the benefit of his health, the shock will come with doublo severity, following as it docs so closely on the news of the death of his friend and partner, Mr. John Richmond. The funeral of the deceased lady will leave the residence of Mr. E. Hesketh, Epsom, for St. Mark's Church, Romuera, at three o'clock to-morrow.
