AUCKLAND TOBACCO CO.

An adjourned meeting of the Auckland Tobacco Company was held at the office, Union Insurance Buildings, Queen-street, on the 6th May. Report and Bir.ANCE-sHEET.-Tha report and balance-sheet were then read, the latter showing a loss of £5209 on the working of the company. No report was presented by tha committee of inspection appointed at the adjourned meeting; but two members, Messrs. Brown and Aickin, w'-o had looked over the works, said that though they were favourably impressed by their observations of the manufacture, they were in favour of the winding-up of the company, as no disposition was shown by the public in general to take shares in it. In accordance with this v.aw, it was proposed that the chairman and Mr. Heather should be liquidators, assisted by the secretary (Mr. Denby). A question of the legality of the meeting being raised, it was determined to call a special general meeting to confirm any resolution passed by it. The motion respecting tha winding-up of the company was put to tha meeting and carried. A special meeting of the Auckland Tobacco Company was held on Thursday, May 20, in the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. JR. C.' Barstow presided, and Baid the meeting was; called to confirm the resolution passed at tha last meeting to wind up the company. They regretted the necessity of having to take that course, but it could not be avoided, as they could not in any other way meet their liabilities. He felt some confidence that when tho company was re-established the production of «. „acco might become one of the leading industries of Auckland. In accordance with the resolution passed at last meeting, he moved, " That the company ho wound up, with himself and Mr. Hesketh aa liquidators." Mr. Graves Aickin seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously, find the meeting then terminated.
