THE FEDERAL COUNCIL.
Melbourne, August 10. It is expected that the first meeting • the Australasian Federal Council ws be held at Hobart on an early dai-j next year.
THE OMNIBUS DRIVERS' STRIKE, Melbourne, August 10.
The Omnibus Drivers' Strike has come to an end, the men having adopted the recommendation of a number of leading citizens, who counselled them to accept the compromise, the basis of settlement being a fixed payment for each trip.
Later.
A meeting of omnibus drivers is nowbeing held. From the tone of the proceedings it is probable that the strike will be resumed in consequence of the Melbourne Omnibus Company not reinstating the unionists.
SMALL-POX IN SYDNEY. Sydney, August 10,
In consequence of the discovery of small-pox on board the Messageries steamer Oceanic, the vessel has been placed in quarantine, and the patient landed at the quarantine station. The case is stated to be of an extremely serious nature.
