' The s.s. Waitaki arrived last evening from Whangarei, with the following cargo :— tons coal, 46 sacks gum. The new schooner being built by Mr. Gouk is so near completion that she is expeoted to be ready for launching to-morrow. She is a most substantially built craft of 37£ tons register. Her length of keel is 58 feet; overall, 69 feet; beam (moulded), 16 feet; depth of hold, 6 feet 6 inches. Her frames are of pohutukawa, and the planking of kauri, and throughout is double fastened with copper bolts. The vessel, which will be rigged as a fore-and-aft schooner, Is to be named the Nelu, and is to be taken to ber destination (Samoa) by Captain O'Ryan. The schooner has a very capacious and neatly fitted after oabin, and taken altogether is a vessel that reflects very highly upon her builder, who has evidently spared neither labour nor material in his endeavours to produce a oraft that will give satisfaction to her owners, and do credit to our port. The schooner Agnes Donald has been purchased by Mr. J. Craig, the amount given for her being £500. She is to go into dock for oleanlng, icc., to-day, if the present occupants of the dock are floated out. Captain James Lewis takes command. Captain Bathurst is to have command of the schooner Saucy Elate, and for the future intends to keeps her employed in the timber trade between this port and Whangaroa. The schooner Kenilworth is to leave to-day for Whangaroa. There she will load with timber for Dunedin. The s.s. Wellington from Tauranga, and Argyle from Mercury Bay, both arrived in harbour on Saturday last with cargo and passenger;. Amongst the cargo brought by the Wellington were 600 saoks maize. The Argyle left again the same day for the Barrier. To-day the Wellington is to leave for Northern ports, and the Argyle for Mercury Bay. The Clansman, which returned from Whangarei on Saturday night last, is to leave this evening for Tauranga. The three-masted sohooner Buster is to go hence to the Kaipara, there to load timber for Brisbane.

The barque Norway goes hence to the Bluff. She entered outwards on Saturday last. The brigantine Louis Montgomery left Mercury Bay on Saturday last bound for Sydney with a cargo of coal. Penguin, Captain Allman, arrived from the South at 8.30 a.m. yesterday, Tho Penguin left Fort Chalmers at 430 p.m. on the 3rd, called at Akaroa, and arrived at Lyttoltou at 11.30 a.m. on tho 4th ; sailed at 9 30 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at noon on the sth ; left again at 1 p.m. on the 6th for Picton and Nelson, arriving at the latter port at 4 a.m. on the 7th ; sailed at 1 p.m. for Taranaki, arriving at 6.30 a.m. on the Bth ; left for the Manukau at 4 p.m., crossed the bar at 7 a.m. on the 9th, arriving as above. She leaves again for the South to-niorr»w morning at 9.30. Latest train for passengers 8 40. The s.s. The ship Auckland, Captain Morden, sailed at 4 p.m. on Saturday for London, with four passengers, and a full cargo of wool, skins, grain, flour, and preserved meat. THE TAMSUI AGROUND. Poet Chlalmebs, August 9.—The steamer Tamsui, whilst steaming down the harbour, at twelve o'clock yesterday, grounded at the lower part of Deborah Bay, in consequence of her steam steering gear getting out of order. Efforts were made to got her off, but. as the tide was falling, this was not accomplished until noon to-day, when, having been lightened by pumping out her forward ballast tanks, some 350 tons, she was towed into deep water, and left for Wellington at 12.45 p.m. The point on which she stranded was perfeotly smooth and sandy, so that, beyond a few hours' detention, she has not suffered any damage. Her draught of water on crossing the bar in tho first quarterflood tide was 22 feet aft, 19 feet 4 inches forward. She takes the following cargo for London 770 bales wool, skins, and leather, 58 casks tallow and pelts, 1440 sacks flour, 5724 carcases, And 500 half-carcases mutton.
