ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

Yesterday Mrs. Bropliy, matron of the Auxiliary Old Men's , Refuge, reported to Constable Dewes, that between two a.m. and half-past three a.m. , a .patient named John Nairns attempted suicide by cutting .his throat with a*• table-knife, which he had taken to bed with him, but did not inflict any serious injury. He was removed to the Hospital, where he was attended to by Dr. Bond. The wound is rather an ugly one. the veins having been cut, but not likely to prove fatal. His removal to the Lunatic Asylum is desired, as he has been in a state of mental aberration for years past, and requires constant watching, Many years ago he attempted his life at Epsom, and aocused someone else of the deed, but it was discovered that he had inflicted the wounds himself, and was of unsound mind. Ho w?3 committed to the Asylum, but owing to an irregularity in the committal was refused admission, and sent to the Refuge, where he has remained over since. Nairn is decrepit, 70 years of, age, and has no friends in the colony.
