One represented the desirability of the Government aiding by a grant the construction of a road giving access to the Mount Owen reefs. He was found two hours after the ocurrence. The knives had cut one of his legs fearfully. His head was very much bruised, and several of his ribe were broken. Mr. W. Downie Stewart, M.H.R. for Danedin West, addressed his constituents to-night. There was an audience of 60 or 70 persons. Mr. Stewart supported the Government generally. He received a vote of confidence. The Acclimatisation Society has declared all imported game, except hares, protected. The hare season, as also that for native game, is to extend from April Ist to July 31st. The project of sending a team of New Zealand bowlers to the tournament at Melbourne, at Easter, has bee n abandoned, ai sufficient members could not be got together. An inquest was held to>day on the boy Fraser, who was killed by falling from the platform of a tram car, off which he. was jumping. A verdict of accidental death was returned, and a rider added that boys should not be allowed to ride on the platform.

Two Dunedin tourists, Messrs. M. R. Boss and J. Marshall, accompanied by a guide, made a very successful ascent of Mount Ernalow, at the head of Lake Wakatipu, on Wednesday last. They reached a point on the' eastern glacier 8500 feet above the sea level, or 2000 feet higher than Mr. Marshall accomplished* last year, and a good deal higher than Rev. Mr. .Green accomplished in 18S2. The top of the mountain was enveloped in fog, so that it could not be'reached. The ascent and deaoent occupied fourteen hours. Mr. Waddel, an English tourist, accompanied the party as far as the snow line, but gave in then.
