THE GOLDFIELDS.
[fbom our own correspondent.] Thambs, Wednesday evening. Martha (Waihi). —113oze. gold for five weeks' run. The dirt crushed was low grade. The battery has only worked halftime, and that not the full force. Rain has fallen copiously, and all the batteries are now working. Cambria.—The manager reports : The eastern drive is in a distance of 155 feet from the winze. Colours of gold were seen here during the week. No. 1 stope is along 135 feet; No. 2, 112; No. 3, 74; and No. 4, 43. Colours of gold are being seen in all the stopes when breaking down the reef. Started No. 2 stope at the intermediate level on Monday. The contractors are making fair progress with the cross-cut at No. 3 level, which is in a distance of 58J feet. Cleanine up for the month took place to-day, when 341 loads of quartz and 4001 bs. of specimens were crushed for the splendid return of lOOOozs. of melted gold. The battery will stop for three or four days to put in a new waterwheel. Darwin.—The manager reports that the winze is down a distance of 34 feet. About two feet six inches of quartz in being carried down in the winze ; there is good mineral in the quartz, and good colours of gold were seen when breaking down the reef on Tuesday. The contractors are making fair progress with the cross cut at No. 3 level which is now in a distance of 581 feet.
