CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

The ordinary meeting of the City Schools Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs. Crowther, Brearley, . McMasters, Hannan, and Sbalders. In the absence of Mr. Gorrie, Mr. Crowther was voted to the chair. The Howe-street Home. —A letter was received from the Board informing the committee that permission had been granted by the Government to use temporarily the detached schoolroom at the . Howe-street Home. It could accommodate over 100 children, and might be used as an auxiliary to ord-stree School for girls and young boys. The committee's opinion was invited. The Chairman expressed his opinion that they could not have this school tacked upon them with the funds placed at their disposal The consideration of this . matter was deferred until next meeting. School Fund.—A communication was received from the Board, re correspondence which had taken place last year on the allowance to School Fond. The Board had resolved to grant the amount of the ordinary expenditure, £330, of last year, and requested the committee to keep their expenditure within that amount as no liability beyond that sum could be recognised by the Board.— The Chairman thought the amount far short of the sum which had been held out to them on taking office Consideration was deferred until next meeting. Miscellaneous.—A report upon the working of the teaching staff of the Wellealeystreet School by the head-master was read. Messrs. Crowther and Shalders . were appointed a committee to confer with Mr. Worthington upon the subject.— letter from the Board informing the committee that ths half-year's grant of £165 (less £50 advanced at the beginning o£ the year) had been placed to the credit of the committee at the Bank of New Zealand. DE. Richardson's Temferancb Lesson Book.—Mr. Hannan's motion to introduce Dr. Richardson's Lesson Book into the schools was deferred until there was a full meeting of the committee.
