THE OPERA ROUSE.

This week will see the end of Miss Ward's brief season at the Opera House. To-night and to-morrow night "Rachel" will be played, and on Wednesday and Thursday it has been announced that " Forget Me Not" will be repeated. On Friday Miss Ward takes her benefit, and the season comes to a close. Of the pieces that have already been played it seems to be the general opinion that the best and most effective are " Forget Me Not" and "Mammon." It is in the former of these two plays that Miss Ward moat conspicuously and successfully exhibits both the excellence and variety of her powers as an actress. A similar remark ,may be applied to Mr. Vernon's acting in "Mammon." Hiß Sir Geoffrey Herriott is in every way a most admirable representation, and it is no wonder that it made a deep impression on all those by •whom it was witnessed during the last three nights of the past week. The end of the second act, especially, and some parts of the third, if we are not mistaken, were so effective that they brought all the woman into the hearts of not a few among the audience. Tho piece, according to present arrangements, is not to be played again in Auckland. This, we have reason to believe, is a""" matter of great regret, not only to a large number of playgoers, who would gladly welcome the chance of seeing it onoe more, but also to many who had no opportunity of seeing it last week. This being the case, we should be glad to hear that an alteration in the programme, if it would not be the cause of any inconvenience to Miss Ward and Mr. Vernon, had been made, and that the public, instead of seeing " Forget Me Not" on both Wednesday and Thursday, nights, were to have the opportunity of seeing once more, and for the last tine, first Miss Ward and then Mr. Vernon in the two plays in which they appear to the most conspicuous advantage
