ii Coke, because it makes no smoke, is peculiarly adapted for use in cities, and there is overy reason to behove that, weight for weight, it is a more economical fuel than steam coal. Thus, for example, in short boilers. or those in which there is not a long run in the chimney, coke will prove more economical than coal. Two excellent illustrations of this fact nave come under our notice. In one, a gu;all vortical boiler, without tubes, actually evaporated nearly 91bs of cold water per pound of coke. With coal the samo boiler could, at most, have evaporated 6lbs ; that is if the coal could have been fairly burnt at all which we doubt. In the other one, the evaporation was at the rate of (j'CGlbs of water to the pound of coal, with the boiler doing precisely the same work ana under similar conditions—the only change being mat gas coke was used instead of coal as fuel; the evaporation was B'llb of water per pound of coke, team users are invited to apply for a reprint of OSce* • *' ineor > to 1,0 obtained at the Gas w Englishwoman will remember counter Hudson's Extract of Soap was in the old thinir v Wi3 n S, cleaning, and scouring every-ston-kpp. < ol)tain a ilb. packet from every in , a colony.
