HOW MR. MCDONALD'S CONSTITUENTS TAKE IT.
[BY TELHBKAFH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.} Gisborne, Wednesday. The indignation expressed here at Mr. McDonald's conduct "ie extremely emphatic. He had promised repeatedly that if he went he .would resign in time to allow of another election before the session, and now, with several Bills of the greatest local importance to come on, the district must be unrepresented part if not all the session, even if pome further trick is played, and a resignation is found to be forthcoming. The Poverty Bay Herald, after reprinting the article on the subjeot in the New Zealand Herald to-day, says :—"Mr. McDonald has left the colony—that is a certain faot, and that we can be most heartily thanltfnl .for. That he has not sent' in his resignation will surprise but few. Nothing we oan eay will add to the caustic censure so well expressed by an outside and independent authority. The. mask is now thrown off, and probably not one of the friends who have stuok to him hitherto, and tried to explain and excuse his trickery, will now attempt to delude themselves by seeing him in other than his true colours." Our contemporary goes on to express itself, in still stronger language, and concludes :—" Even at the cost of being unrepresented for a year we are well quit of him."
