The course was from the hulk Clara Hargraves to the Queen-street Wharf. In a sailing match at Tauranga on April 4, the Tui beat the Wave, the winner oE the cup presented by Messrs. Porter and Co. to the 'Lauranga Regatta. The race was a very close one. The Autumn Race Meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club was held on April 5, and was moderately patronised. The course was in good order, and the stewards and officers exerted themselves to the utmost to promote the success of the gathering. As to the races themselves, the fields were as a rule small owing to numbers being scratched, but the contests were pretty close, and the finishes satisfactory. Two accidents occurred during the day. In the Selling Hurdle Race, Evening Star fell at the Becond last hurdle and threw his rider, Williams, but he got oif with a shaking and was able to mount again. In the Handicap Hurdle Race Shotover fell heavily, and his rider (Farrell) was very severely shaken. Albin Villeval for the benefit of Madame Duqueane came off on Wednesday evening in the Theatre Eoyal. The dress circle was quite full. The lower parts of the house were also well attended. There was certainly an excellent frogrampie, and was rendered with excellent effect. The audience manifested their satisfaction by frequent and emphatic applanse.

Our Coromandel correspondent states that & grand ball and supper by the Oddfellowß Knd Foresters combined, at Waterman's Masonic Hotelj came oft on Easter Monday, ■end was a great success. The two lodges Jfratemised well, and worked with the greatest {harmony. Nearly 100 ladies and gentlemen (were present, and dancing was kept np \ ith •spirit till daybreak. At abont midnight an adjournment was made to supper. •The usual loyal and patriotic toasts ■were giren, and Mr. Rockliff. P.C.R., in {responding to the toast .of "The Lodges," 'toot occasion to. say that there were about i 1,200,000 members o£ the two orders in the •■world, and allowing five persons to each '.family, it would give about 6,000,000 of who were benefited. If such societies 'were more generally supported, there would be little pauperism to complain of. A very agreoable entertainment was held on the 2nd April in St. Sepulchre's School, Symonds-street, in aid of the funds of the Sunday-school connected with St. David's Presbyterian Church. The attendance was large and thoroughly appreciative. A very pleasant time was spent on board the s.s. Rotomahana on the evening of the 29 th March. It having become known early in the morning of the above date tbat it was the anniversary of the captain's daughter's birthday, a vocal and instrumental concert was arranged under the patronage of the captain and officers of the steamer. The entertainment terminated about ten o'clock, when a few hours had been agreeably Bpent. A concert, which had been announced for the 11th April at Abbott's Opera House, by Mr. aud Madame Pooley, was well attended in the dress circle and stalls. The programme was special appropriate to the solemn character of the day. A very pleasant gathering of the mem bers of the Grafton-road Bible Class, took place in the Wesleyan School-room, on Saturday, the sth April, for the purpose of saying good-by to their President, the Rev. W. C. Oliver. Mrs. R. M. Wallis, on behalf of the class, presented Mr. Oliver with a shield, containing the photographs ot himself and the members (forty-four in number) of the clas3. The members of the Auckland Christian Doctrine Society (Roman Catholic) and their friends held their annual picnic at the College grounds, Lake Takapuna, on the 14th April, and passed a veryenjoyable day. On April 5 a reunion of the employees of Messrs. Garlick and Cranwell (furniture manufacturers, upholsterers, and general furnishing warehousemen) took place at the villa residence, "Ferndale," Mount Albert, of the senior partner, Mr. Garlick. The invitations of the firm embraced also the wives, daughters, "and sweethearts of their employes ; and the whole party, about 70, left the Queen-street premises of Messrs. Garlick and Cranwell, at half-past one p.m., in four four-horse 'buses. On arrival at " Ferndale," the house and grounds of Mr. Garlick were thrown open to the party. The young people went ■in for cricket, lawn tennis, hildegarde, and other games, till the rain compelled a retreat to the house, where parlour games, music, and social chat whiled away the time till half-past five o'clock. At that hour the company sat down to dinner in the social halL Sir. Dallen was caterer, and everything was served in excellent style. Mr. J. T. Garlick presided, while. Mr. Cranwell and Mr. Smith (the foreman) occupied respectively the positions at the head of the oblong tables. Full justice having been done to the good things provided, and to the temperance retreshments which alone graced the board (Messrs. Garlick and Cranwell being Blue Ribbonites, as well as most of their men) the more intellectual portion of the evening's proceedings commenced. The toasts of 11 The Queen and Royal Family," and " flis Excellency the Governor," having been duly honoured, the Chairman gave the toast of the evening "OurCo-helpersintheßusiness." He paid an emphatic tribute to the employes of the firm, for general good conduct, and for turning out their work in a style which was a credit to themselves and to the firm. —The toast was then drunk heartily.— Mr. Brown (the accountant), on behalf of the employees, thanked Messrs. Garlick and Cranwell and the other friends for the manner in which they had drunk the toast. Mr. Smith (the foreman) replied in a characteristic and humorous speech on behalf of the apprentices more especially. He concluded by proposing the toast, " Success to Garlick and Cranwell," which was enthusiastically drunk by those present. The Chairman briefly responded cn behalf of the firm. The party broke up at half-past ten o'clook, and as each omnibus load of employda passed out of the grounds, on their way to their respective homes, the hands gave three cheers for Messrs. Garlick and Cranwell and their families. The reunion, in many respects, was one of the most unique o£ its kind that has taken place in Auckland.
