AUCKLAND STOCK AND SHARE MARKET.

The sharemarket shows no improvement, and trans* actions in all descriptions of stocks are of tho must limited character. Money continue* very tight in the usual commercial circles ; notwithstanding, thero is a good deal of foreign capital awaiting investment. Eight por cent, is obtainable on good freeiio'd security, and notwithstanding tho general depression throughout New Zealand the trade of Auckland seems jto be thoroughly healthy ancl Labour finds ready employment in carrying out "tiio variou* works undertaken by the Freezing, jfew Zealand Insurance, anri other pn--lic companies. Tho mining market is unusually dull, and quotations are in most cases nominal. Stocka are not, how. ever, unduly pressed, but "buyers are. decidedly siarco. The Prinr® Imperial still continues to bo the loading -mlno, and should be very soon in a position iw P V small dividends. The Caledonian low level and Cambria ure both carrying on important operations, and doing a large amount of prospecting in what is virtually virgin r ground. Tho returns from" tho Aroha, though not quite up to expectation, aro very steady/ and when aU the

berdans are In position there should boa conlMGrftblO increase in the yield of gold. -'From the West Coast there is no important news. The. directors of Humphrey and itoss UnlMa ate pushing ou works*' In the former the mala dim* culties have been overcome* and the latter company should soon bo In ft position to stop'calli and bogio to tarn out somo gold. The eloTat-or* set up oo the adjoining mine—the Princa of Wales—are, we understand, a great success.'. This, of course, is encouraging news for Rosa shareholders. The following quotations will give a fair idea of pre* sent market rates and course of sales :—
