MR. BATHGATE'S SUGGESTIONS.

Dun'Eims-, Thursday. Mr. John Bathgate, M.H.R., addressed a meeting of his constituents to-night on " Suggestions in reference to the present distress." He urged complete financial separation from the North Island, the aholitionof centralised Government, the appointment of Resident Ministers in several parts of the colony, the abolition of party Government, the election of Ministers by a district, and the appointment of a Premier by each Parliament; also the issue of a Government paper currency, the formation of class banks, such as Cozens' bank, farmers' banks, and reform and retrenchment in the Civil Service. These were the principal suggestions. The Hon. Mr. Reynolds expressed difference from some of the speaker's view*, but proposed a vote of confidence in him as M.H.R., which was carried.
